As a result of aging, our face, body and especially our breasts may sag. In addition to aging, the withdrawal of milk ducts following birth& breastfeeding, excessive weight gain & loss, may cause the breast skin to lose its elasticity. As a result of these changes, the breast tissue and nipples can slide down and the round contour of the breasts, known as upper pole fullness, may become depleted. After sagging occurs, the only way to bring breast tissue and nipples to its normal, upright position, is with surgical intervention, which is known as a Breast Lift.
Breast shape and position can significantly be improved with Breast Lift Surgery, but the size and upper pole fullness is not changed. If the patient would like breast volume increased, Breast Augmentation Surgery with silicone implants can be done, together with a Mastopexy. On the other hand, if the patient feels that their breasts are heavy and sagging, breast tissue can be reduced whilst Breast Lifting is performed.

Who Needs Breast Lift?
A breast lift is an ideal surgical procedure for a those who,

  • Have sagging breasts,
  • Have lost upper breast pole fullness,
  • have elongated or pendulous breasts,
  • have downward-pointing nipples and areolas,
  • have stretched skin and elongated areolas,
  • have asymmetric breasts.

What Should Be Done Before Breast Reduction?

Before surgery, during the first consultation, the patient‘s breast measurements are taken to determine by which technique and by which skin incision it will be performed.
Before surgery, we suggest a radiological examination of the breasts (ultrasonography or mamography) in patients over 35 years old.
It is suggested to stop taking blood thinning medications like Aspirin and Ibuprofen

Breast Lift Procedure

Breast Lift Surgery takes 2-3 hours under general anesthesia. The skin incision of the Breast Lift Surgery is determined according to the amount of skin excess and drooping. All mastopexy surgeries include an incision around the areola. However depending on the extent of sagging, this incision may run vertically down from the nipple and then horizontally across the breast crease.
Breast Lift Recovery

Patient can return home after a night in the hospital or on the day of surgery. The bandage, which is wrapped immediately after the operation, is removed 2-3 days later and a special bra is worn instead.
Patients are suggested to use this medical bra for 4-6 weeks for a healthy recovery. Since the stitches are absorbable, they do not need to be removed.
Approximately seven days after surgery, patients can return to work, but heavy bags, heavy exercises and strenuous activities are not allowed for six weeks.
However, scars which are evident at first, fade over time and become less noticeable. In order to reduce the visibility of scars, patients are suggested to use scar creams and special wound care products for approximately 6 months.

What are the Risks of Breast Lift Surgery?

Breast Lift Surgery is a relatively safe and effective procedure but just like any surgical procedures, there are risks of bleeding, infection, reaction to any of the medications or anesthetics and scarred healing. There is still the rare chance of nerve damage, nipple numbness and asymmetry. Since nipples and areolas stay attached to the underlying breast mound, this allows the preservation of sensation and the ability to breast-feed most times. In order to minimize the surgical risks, the patient’s past medical history is reviewed very carefully, the necessary consultations are taken, and the surgery is performed at an accredited hospital.

Breast Lift with Augmentation

Patients can choose to combine a Breast Lift and Breast Augmentation Surgery into a single procedure in order to have lifted breasts with a fuller upper breast pole and increased volume.
