If you have waist thickness, and thickness of basins and inner parts of knees that cannot be corrected despite how much weight you lose, you can be a good candidate for liposuction. Liposuction is not an operation to make you lose weight. With this operation, your body contours would be corrected and as a result, excess fat flowing out of your clothes would be removed.
Liposuction is the surgical operation for removal of excess fat accumulated in certain parts of the body (such as belly, hips, legs, inner parts of knees, waist sides, back and under the chin) using cannulas. Liposuction is not an operation for losing weight. The goal of this surgery is to correct body contours by removing excess fat accumulated around the body in a disproportionate manner. The ideal candidate for this operation is the one with normal weight or with weight that is slightly above normal but has excess fat accumulation in certain parts of his/her body.
The most appropriate time for new mothers is usually the end of the first year after the birth because during this one year the mother will have gotten rid of the excess weight that can be lost by natural means and it is easy to assess the sagging and cracks on the skin clearly. Also, lactation period will usually be completed by the end of this period.
In men, the operation is done to remove the excess fat around the belly-button and on both sides of the belly and waist and to reveal the appearance of abdominal muscles. Again the ideal male candidate for this operation is the one with normal weight and normal skin elasticity.
With this surgical method that is being implemented by plastic surgeons since 1970s the most important novelty in recent years is the wet technique and usage of cannulas with smaller diameters. Using smaller cannulas and applying appropriate techniques minimizes the risk for possible proportional problems.
Liposuction is carried out under local anesthesia (by sedation of the area from where far will be removed) or under general anesthesia. With local anesthesia the patient is also given sedation anesthesia preventing him/her from feeling pain.
Liposuction is carried out using 4-5 mm incisions to place cannulas and because of this, no visible scars form after the surgery.
After the operation, the patient is recommended to wear a corset for 3 weeks and the patient will be sent home on the same day or next day of the operation and can get back to work after a few days. There would be bruises and swellings in the areas where incisions are made. Bruises take around 4 weeks to heal and it takes around 2-3 months for swellings to disappear completely and the final result to be visible.
Physical exercise or LPG applications after the operation speed up the healing process for swellings while minimizing the risk of wave formation on the skin.
