Breast enlargement in men (gynecomastia) might be due to various causes (like liver conditions, certain drugs, hormones used for body building and certain tumor types). As a result, the real cause should be determined with assessments and treated if there is a cause. However in most patients, there wouldn’t be any specific cause at all and this condition requires surgical intervention by aesthetic plastic surgeons as it is solely a cosmetic problem.

If it is fat tissue that makes up the large breast, it can be treated only by liposuction and this would be sufficient in most cases. However, if hard breast tissue is the main reason of gynecomastia, then the breast tissue has to be removed.

These operations can be carried out with local or general anesthesia. The patients can go home on the same day or the next morning. Patients usually go back to work within 5 days on average. They can do sports after 3-4 weeks.
