Fat injection is the procedure whereby fat taken from certain parts of the body (like belly, hips or waist) is injected into areas with insufficient volume. It is also used commonly for correcting cavities that result from various traumas. Fat injections are usually carried out using local anesthesia. The patient can return home on the same day of the operation. Bruises and swellings may be observed in the area of injections but they would disappear in a few days. 20-90% of the fat injected with this method would be absorbed by the body at the end of year one. Thus, the sustainability of the results obtained with fat injection varies from one patient to another. To what extent the fat injected will remain in the injection area will be apparent within 3-6 months and if necessary injections can be repeated at the end of this period. Because the patient’s own fat tissue is used with fat injections, there is no risk of allergic reactions. The possible risks only include infections which are quite rare and some other minor problems. |
