In the abdominal region, sagging, bagginess and cracks can form following birth or due to gaining or losing excess weight. Also with advanced age, fat accumulation can be observed in the abdominal region. With abdominal stretching, skin that has become loose and sagged would be stretched, the cracks under the pot can be removed and muscles of the abdominal wall can be stretched and the deformed belly look can be corrected.
Abdominal stretching surgery is carried out under general anesthesia. The patient stays at the hospital for one night after the operation. The patient is recommended to wear a corset after the operation. The patient can get back to work 1 week after the surgery but she is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise and sports for 3 months.
During this operation, the excess skin and fat tissue is removed from the abdominal region and surrounding abdominal wall muscles would be stretched. A horizontal incision to overlap the cesarean section scar would be made during the operation. This incision would be extended towards the pelvis on both sides depending on the excess material to be removed. The incision scar remains under your undergarment and would be red and apparent at the beginning. However in about one year, the scar would fade away and take on a color that is close to natural skin color.
If there is no sagging but only excess fat in the abdominal region, only liposuction may be sufficient. Abdominal stretching operation is not applied to women planning to give birth and should be deferred to post pregnancy period. As it is the case for other types of aesthetic operations, with this operation as well, the patients would be asked to quit smoking 3 weeks before the surgery due to negative effects of smoking on scar recovery.
